Characteristics of natural stone

Limestone
Limestone consists of calcite.  Limestone is formed by an accumulation of organic remains.  It has a very smooth surface.  Limestone is known to contain lime from sea water.  Our polished high gloss, maintenance free surface, retains beauty under the most demanding conditions.  Limestone is ideal for bathroom vanity tops, floors, backsplashes, walls, tables and bar tops.  Our limestone is available in many beautiful colors, which will allow it to blend with any decor.  We will also fully customize and manufacture our slabs and tiles to individual specifications.

Exterior flooring and wall cladding have become very popular in high traffic areas.  Polished, honed and flamed cut to size slabs are available in 20mm, 30mm and 50mm thickness.

Limestone is available in the following finishes:

Polished: Sheer gloss

Honed: Smooth surface with no gloss

Sand Blasted: Textured surface with no gloss

Tumbled: A somewhat rough texture with a worn appearance.

Bush-hammered: Edges a little tumbled and scalloped with no gloss.

Flamed: A rough surface and is very porous.  Develops through intense heat.

Precautions for Limestone:

1) Do not place hot items on the stone, use placemats as they may damage the stone.

2) Do not use any cleaning products that contain any lemon or vinegar.

3) Do not place any glasses on the stone as alcohol or citrus juices may stain or scratch the surface.

Granite:
Granite is known for its strength and durability, it is the hardest of all stones.  It is used for floors, walls, kitchen and bathroom counters and is virtually the most maintenance free of all stones.

Marble:
Marble is known for its array of colors. It is a softer material formed from marble, calcium, limestone and dolomite. It is usually heavy veined and shows allot of grains. Marble needs to be maintained the same as limestone.

Sandstone:
Sandstone is made up of sand cemented by silica, iron, lime etc.  It is a very durable stone and available in colors of light browns, red colors and earthy buff colors.

Soapstone:
This a very soft stone, wears well and is usually resistant to most stains.

Travertine:
This stone contains allot of pores that were formed when water flowed through the stone.  These holes are sometimes filled with resins and or cements.  Travertine is available in creams and red colors and does require allot of maintenance.

Onyx:
Onyx is a translucent material and is available in many colors.  It is a fragile material and is similar to marble in it's characteristics. For best results a white setting material should be used.

Slate:
A fine grained stone and is easily breakable.  It is available in many variations of greens and grays with some pinks, gold's.
